Who is Stuart Broad?

England's T20 captain, a rising all-rounder and former England batsman Chris Broad's son. Stuart Broad is all this and more. Broad, or Broady, as he is fondly called by his England team-mates, is an intrinsic part of the English team.

The 6 ft 5 inch tall bowler proved his value to the English line-up as he took 6 wickets, including a hat-trick, in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test at Trent Bridge to bring England back in the game that India seemed to be running away with. India went from 267/4 to 288 all out, losing 6 wickets for just 21 runs, as Broad wrecked havoc in the Indian camp and claimed 5 of those wickets. He had also picked up Sachin Tendulkar earlier in the day. The master blaster had also fallen to the lanky pacer in the 1st innings of the Lord's Test.

Broad's contribution in this Test doesn't just end here. He has brought alive the crowd at Trent Bridge every time England seemed to be losing the plot. On Day 1 as well, when English batsmen perished to Indian seamers with relative ease, Broad not only stood his ground, but also played shots freely to slam 64 runs and lift his side's score to a respectable 221.

Ironically, before the start of the ongoing series against India, Broad wasn't even certain of making it to the playing XI, owing to his poor form in the preceding series against Sri Lanka. What a turn-around it has been, not just for England, but also Broad.
